Savin Hill is chosen as the site for a fort.
January 6, 1633
Originally Rock Hill, it is chosen by the General Court as the site of a fort that is built in 1634 and equipped with cannon in 1639. The fort subsequently falls into disrepair and is dismantled. But the site is refortified prior to the Revolutionary War and again in 1812. The site purchased by John Tuttle and renamed Olde Hill in 1730. It is purchased by the Worthington family in 1796, and then by Joseph Tuttle in 1812, who builds a hotel here and renames the hill in 1819.*
